Napper Tandy’s Irish Pub Holds 1st Annual Benefit Bash for Alzheimer’s Association

Ronkonkoma, N.Y. -- The Alzheimer’s Association Long Island is pleased to announce that Napper Tandy’s Irish Pub, located at 5590 Merrick Road in Massapequa will be hosting a fund raising event on Saturday, September 20th, 2003 beginning at 4:00 p.m. Proceeds from this event will help support the programs and services offered by the Alzheimer’s Association Long Island.

Paul Conroy, a partner at Napper Tandy’s Massapequa, recently lost his father and uncle to Alzheimer’s Disease. It is Mr. Conroy’s hope that the Napper Tandy’s event will bring attention to the devastating effects this disease has on individuals and their family members, and also raise awareness to the growing need for the programs and services offered by the Alzheimer’s Association Long Island. On Long Island there are approximately 55,000 individuals who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and the numbers are growing.

By the middle of this century, it is estimated that 14 million of today’s baby boomers will have Alzheimer’s disease. The annual cost of Alzheimer’s disease will soar to at least $375 billion, overwhelming our health care system and bankrupting Medicare and Medicaid. Alzheimer’s disease does not happen overnight, it begins to attack the brain of its potential victims 10 to 20 years before the first symptoms appear. To protect today’s baby boomers from the ravage of Alzheimer’s we have to find ways to stop this disease process now, while there is still time to prevent the damage.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the nation’s leading voluntary health organization dedicated to supporting families and caregivers by providing vital programs and services in local communities nationwide. The Association is the largest private funder of Alzheimer research, having committed $136 million to date. Nearly 78 percent of every dollar raised by the Alzheimer’s Association funds programs to promote research, find effective treatments, and improve the lives of those affected by Alzheimer’s.

Suggested donation for this event is $20 and includes a Grand Prize Raffle Ticket to win an all- inclusive vacation for two to the Dominican Republic, complete buffet dinner, complimentary drink, dancing and live entertainment – plus – extra bonus prizes from local sponsors.

For further information, please contact Paul Conroy at (516) 799-9269 or Mary Ann Ragona at (516) 935-1033. Visit the Association website at www.alzheimersli.org.
