The Honorable Robert J. Gaffney & The Honorable Thomas R. Suozzi Co-Chair Long Island Alzheimer's Memory Walk 2003

Ronkonkoma, NY -- The Alzheimer’s Association Long Island is pleased to announce that The Honorable Robert J. Gaffney, Suffolk County Executive and The Honorable Thomas R Suozzi, Nassau County Executive will co-chair this year’s Memory Walk event.

Memory Walk is the nation’s number one fund-raiser to help those battling Alzheimer's. Since its inception in 1989, Memory Walk has raised more than $120 million to enhance the quality of life for individuals, families, and caregivers touched by Alzheimer's.

Each year, thousands of people lace up their walking shoes and participate in Memory Walks in over 400 communities from coast to coast. Every dollar raised in our community stays in our community to fund essential care and support services.

The Alzheimer’s Association Long Island Board of Directors is honored to have Messrs. Gaffney & Suozzi participate in this year’s event and are most grateful for their continued support.

By the middle of this century, it is estimated that 16 million of today’s baby boomers will have Alzheimer’s disease. The annual cost of Alzheimer’s disease will soar to at least $375 billion. Alzheimer’s disease does not happen overnight, it begins to attack the brain of its potential victims 10 to 20 years before the first symptoms appear. To protect today’s baby boomers from the ravage of Alzheimer’s we have to find ways to stop this disease process now, while there is still time to prevent the damage.

Please join us on October 4th, 2003 at Eisenhower Park, Field 6-6A starting at 8:30 a.m. The day will be filled with fun, excitement and memories, but most of all it will bring Long Islanders together to help the Long Island Alzheimer's Community "Take Steps to end Alzheimer’s."
