Board Member volunteer
The Board Member volunteer is a volunteer who exercises his/her
duties and responsibilities with integrity, collegiality, and care.
The Board Member volunteer ensures effective organizational planning,
ensures adequate resources, manages resources effectively, monitors
programs and services, agrees to serve as a Chairman of an event,
donates to the Chapter through company, personal or business contacts
and always acts for the good of the not-for-profit.
Committee Volunteer
A Committee volunteer is a volunteer who has knowledge of the Association's
mission and programs, is willing to commit the time and resources
to accomplish event goals and objectives, attend meetings, help
to recruit other members and most of all have fun. The committee
meetings usually take place in the evenings during the week.
Office Volunteer
An office volunteer is the type of volunteer that has some extra
time during the week and is motivated to help with office duties
such as; helping to send out bulk mailings by stuffing and labeling
envelopes, data-entry and photocopying chapter materials. Office
volunteers come into the office between the hours of 9-5 Monday
through Friday.
Event Volunteer
An Event volunteer is a volunteer who is able to assist the chapter
at an event such as Memory Walk at Eisenhower Park. This volunteer
can help to put out food for participants, register participants,
hand out goody bags, or serves as an information person. This is
a volunteer who donates their time specifically for the event.
Team Captain
A team captain is a volunteer who rounds up a group of friends,
relatives, neighbors and co-workers to raise funds for the Association.
The Team Captain is invited to a free kick off luncheon in August.
At that time, a team captains packet is given to each captain. The
Team Captain is fully supported by the Association for ideas, materials
and information.
Memorial Program Volunteer
A Memorial Program volunteer assists the chapter by refilling memorial
envelopes in area funeral homes monthly.
Support Group Leader
A Support Group Leader is an individual who has knowledge of Alzheimer's
disease either by education (a social worker, nurse, etc) or by
experience (a former caregiver). This individual will be trained
by the Program Director and placed in a location where a support
group is needed. Support groups can be for adult children of an
Alzheimer's patient, a well spouse or an early stage patient. Times
and dates vary according to the need in the community.
Special Projects Volunteer
Participation on education and special event projects in and out
of the Chapter office. Many new and intriguing ideas develop throughout
the year when the staff is looking for a volunteer who would like
to be on the "cutting edge" of program development or research.
Possible projects currently being considered include: children's
programs in schools; development of educational programs for diverse
populations; Safe Returnā marketing program; etc.
Health Fair Volunteer
Represent the Alzheimer's Association, Long Island Chapter at local
health fairs. Pick up materials from the Chapter office, set up
a table with brochures. Be prepared to answer basic questions about
the Chapter services and Alzheimer's disease.
Speakers Bureau Volunteer
Help the staff speak to community members about Alzheimer's disease
and related topics. Members of the Bureau will be called upon to
speak to groups on behalf of the Chapter, on general Alzheimer's
topics and/or related topics that your professional expertise may
be able to address.
All-Arounder
Help the staff when mailings need to go out. Be prepared to fold,
collate, post, stamp and sort for bulk mailings. The All-Arounder
helps prepare special materials for special events and informational
mailings within the community.
